We didn’t just have a ton of fun making the War of the Monsters - we were very happy with how the finished product turned out. War of the Monsters was built on the theme of vintage monster B-movies, with mega-crap-loads of building destruction and tons of hot monster-on-monster action! But totally work-appropriate hot monster action. In fact, it was my first game as a producer - I had the luxury of working with a great team and together we made a really awesome and unique fighting game. Fans of kaiju, mecha, giant robots, Sentai, Ultraman and beat em ups in general will find that Dawn of the Monsters isn’t just getting out of the box a bit to show.ĭawn of the Monsters debuts on March 15 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia.About a billion years ago, I worked on a PS2 game called War of the Monsters. I didn’t know that I would get exactly what I wanted for years sooner than anticipated. After rumors from Godzilla, I totally realized that I had left. I felt like watching Godzilla in the 2000s with some of his comic books, a tokusatsu superhero show and a my favorite mini-flavoury invader.ĭawn of the Monsters is one of the biggest surprises for me when I play this year. I love all the characters and their stories and even got into the mystery that begins to come forward at the end of this first chapter. As a fan of tokusatsu, I was in a lot of trouble to find out what the content of the 13AM games is telling me about. The combat is a definite must, but it caught me by surprise, too. You can bet I spent a lot of time there trying to find the best way to make sure you have the best look. I equipped an item that gives an extra special move bar for every parry and a speed-up item so that I could keep my combo and do even more damage. I experimented much and discovered exactly what I wanted in my game so that he was pretty fun! Personally, I’m an avid fan of the Tempest Galahad, who has a big gun and a weapon similar to Ironman’s proton canon in Marvel and Capcom. You can force weak attacks, save them by splitting them into heavy attacks, and then remove heavy attacks by dashes for more combo options, and to destroy all of those into a cataclysmic ultra-attack with different effects depending on what you use. Dawn of the Monsters features a fun combat system with tons of customization and four unique characters to brawl with (kaiju built on Godzilla and Gamera, an evergreen man inspired by Ultraman, and a girl piloting a mech that looks leaned from Getter Robo, Kamen Rider, and Gundam).Īs in Streets of Rage 4 and River City Girls, there is a lot of attention to the combos. It isn’t only for hard-nosed kaiju fans, though. This is a dream, and I know a lot of kaiju fans feel the same. The battle entaild enormous battles over the fate of humanity, won by unstoppable forces of nature or a lone hero piloting a government tax-paid mech. I recall a time when my dad constantly showed me Japanese cartoons and anime that blew my mind. ![]() I instantly fell over heels.įrom color palette to the fact that you can roar with Kaiju and gain fear in enemies, there are many little eggs in the Easter game that give me a huge feeling of a fan like me. The 13AM Games are clearly putting a lot of love into the title. That’s not the basic he seems at first glance. Throw a monster into a monster.ĭawn of the Monsters is easy to explain: Select a giant, travel to different cities and defeat kaiju, while moving through an story. Now WayForward and 13AM Games Dawn of the Monsters finally deliver on my video game fantasies, letting Godzilla, Ultraman, kaiju, tokusatsu, and even mecha fans the games that they made to them. My hunger has been back tenfold lately thanks to something felt resurgence of the kaiju genre in the film’s theater. All I was asking for was a game that was not to be played, like controlling a kaiju, stomping through a city and fighting other kaiju beat them up-style. I looked round the clock for exactly the kind of game that I was considering, turning back to my childhood with the ‘Destroy All Monsters’ series and even launching into mobile territory with Godzilla detruction. ![]() Since the 2010 PlayStation 4 appearance of Godzilla, I knew exactly what I wanted in a new game featuring the King of Monsters.
